We're thrilled to share the word from this year's American Cheese Society conference -- Grayson, our most popular cheese, has been awarded 2nd place in the Farmstead Cheese category. More here.
Galax, Virginia (August 14, 2009) - Meadow Creek Dairy's Grayson cheese was awarded second place in the Washed Rind Cheese category at the 26th Annual American Cheese Society Competition. This is the third year running that Grayson has placed in the competition. Last year, Grayson took first place in the Farmstead Cheese category as well as second place for Best of Show. Grayson is the dairy's best-selling cheese, available in shops from New York to San Francisco. "Americans are really starting to appreciate washed rind cheeses," says cheesemaker Helen Feete. “A handwashed cheese like ours ripens from the outside in, making the flavor richer and more complex. It’s wonderful to see this style becoming more popular in the market.” The American Cheese Society is an association dedicated to promoting artisanal and farmstead cheeses. This year's competition, held in Austin, Texas, featured a record-breaking 1,327 cheeses from 197 North American cheesemakers. The Washed Rind category, which was split between soft and hard cheeses for the first time this year, is one of the most competitive categories in the competition. |
