It's hot out there! While we in the mountains haven't seen the killer temperatures hitting some parts of the country, temperatures in the eighties are more than hot enough... especially for the cows, whose size and heat-producing digestions render them vulnerable to heat stress.
To help the girls chill out, they've got a new stop on their grazing rotation: every day, they're now moved from their fields to one of the partially wooded areas dotting the edges of our farms. These "shade paddocks" keep the girls cool until they're ready for milking and their evening break of fresh grass, and healthy even through the sultry summer days!
